For too long, you have felt hidden. For too long, you have felt cursed. They see you on the outside: a facade of a functioning human. But they don’t see your soul. Your soul in all its ever-learning, beautiful mess. You’re trapped in a cocoon, but you want to spread your wings. Give yourself permission, darling, and come fly with me, In The Confines of My Mind. [Trigger Warning: sexual assault]

When I was a little girl, I discovered my very first love: writing. Whenever something inspired me—which at that time was most likely how cute little inch worms are—I would open up my soft, fuzzy, indigo journal and jot down what I saw. Like an archaeologist, I would recount my findings, while trusting in the guidance of guardian angels to help me discover my inner truth through the written word. As I got older, I doubted my gifts and let fear stop me from pursuing writing—but one magical day (a week after starting Creative Alchemy), I decided to come up with a pen name just for fun, using an anagram of one of my middle names, and came up with the name Anela. When I looked up the meaning of the name, it showed me the word “Angel” on the screen. I remember sitting there, chills running up and down my whole body, and took it as a serendipitous sign that writing, in all its ups and downs, was a special gift that was meant to be shared with the world for connection, enrichment, and for giving a voice to the voiceless.
Anela is a writer, poet, and constant dreamer: navigating the twists and turns of young adulthood in all its alluring confusion. She writes poems that connect to the inner spirit and shares musings of all the happiness, heartbreak, nightmares, tears, and laughs she’s experienced in her 25 years.
